Audi has won SEVEN gongs in this year’s BusinessCar Awards, including the biggest prize -

Business Car of the Year for the A4!

These annual awards are voted for exclusively by the readers of BusinessCar, making them an important barometer for performance in the fleet sector. And if this year’s awards are anything to go by, Audi is looking after its fleet customers exceptionally well and making first-class cars.

“We thought Audi winning six BusinessCar Awards in 2008 was a tremendous achievement, but the ever-increasing popularity of Audi has led to it surpassing last year’s achievement and collecting an incredible seven awards in 2009,” said BusinessCar Editor-in-Chief Tristan Young. “The new A4’s quality, both for drivers and business car managers, made it an outstanding choice and worthy winner of the 2009 Business Car of the Year. And the six category wins demonstrate the strength in depth, class and appeal of Audi’s entire model range.”Iain Carmichael, Audi UK’s Head of Fleet Sales, said: “We are naturally delighted to collect a record seven awards from BusinessCar. These awards reflect the real strength of our great range of cars, and the appeal they have for fleet drivers in particular. They are also testament to the professionalism of the Fleet team and the Audi Centres that so ably take care of the fleet industry’s needs.”

Audi celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and there is no better way to enter such a special year than showing an increase of 4.1% in sales and breaking through the 1,000,000 barrier of vehicles sold worldwide.

There is no need to highlight the state of the automotive industry, with companies begging for money and some of Audi’s closest competitors reporting a downfall of nearly 5% in sales compared to 2007; the question that everybody wants ask is:

Why is Audi doing so well while other Auto makers are struggling?

The answer to this question could turn into a long and complex debate, but after viewing Audi’s booth at this year’s Detroit Auto Show it becomes clear that the cars themselves continue to boost Audi to the top.

Audi displayed a group of innovative, progressive and unique vehicles in Detroit, with pearls like the new Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI Quattro, which promises to bring a new level of performance, with acceleration from 0-60 mph in the 3 sec range and a RPM limit of 8,700.

Another beauty on display was the Audi A7 Sportback concept, a four door coupe full of innovative features and a design strongly influenced by the Audi A5.

Also on display was a beautiful white Q7 3.0 TDI V6 proclaimed the “cleanest diesel in the world” powerplant.

With these beauties and a few others Audi has shown the Automotive World they are stronger than ever.

Audi has approved a new strategy to build a range of eco cars. They will be clean, low CO2 cars, dubbed internally E1 to E5 and spanning everything from a small city car to sports cars.

Audi E1- The E1 electric car is the smallest clean Audi and is based on Volkswagen’s NSF family. That’s essentially the sub-Polo mini car based on the VW Up concept, which will also be badged as a Seat and Skoda.

Audi E2 – Audi’s eco sports care will be the iteration of the VW BlueSport concept car – and it’ll be a mid-engined sports car aimed at the Mazda MX-5 family. Clean aero, light weight and a string of stingy powerplants will ensure the E2 is a clean, green sports car.

Audi E3 – Audi are relaunching the A2, renamed as E3. It will again use aluminium-intensive construction and be based on the cost-efficient MQB matrix due for the 2011 A3 hatch.

Audi E4 – There’s a new name and a second chance for the Audi Roadjet concept which quietly disappeared after its debut at the 2006 Detroit auto show.

Audi E5 – By 2014, Audi plans another green sports car. This should come as good news for enthusiasts worried about the future of fast cars.

Audi AG has achieved its stated objective of selling one million cars in 2008 for the first time in its history. With about 1,003,400 cars sold worldwide, Audi increased its unit sales volume by 4.1 percent over the previous year and has thus achieved its thirteenth consecutive record year.

"This 13th record year in a row is a success achieved by the entire Audi team. I would like to express the gratitude of the Board of Management for your wholehearted commitment," says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. "We’ll continue to draw on this strength in the difficult year of 2009. We have ambitious long-term goals: We want to make Audi the most attractive premium brand worldwide."

Audi achieved growth especially in the European markets and in the Asia-Pacific region. In Western Europe, unit sales of around 53,900 in December surpassed the prior year’s December by 22.7 percent (2007: 43,969). In the entire year of 2008, Audi sold some 667,000 cars in this region, 2.5 percent more than in the prior year (2007: 650,407). These excellent sales volumes also resulted in record market shares in Western Europe and Germany.

In the Asia-Pacific region, Audi delivered new cars to around 14,000 customers in December, an increase of 15.6 percent in unit sales (2007: 12,097). During the entire year, 155,100 customers bought an Audi in this region – 15.6 percent more than in 2007.

In the USA, the third-largest export market for the premium brand from Ingolstadt, sales of 87,760 cars in 2008 amounted to a 6.1 percent drop from the prior year (2007: 93,506). In December Audi sold 7,712 units here, 9.3 percent fewer than in the prior year (2007: 8,504).

The trade magazine “Automobilwoche” has honored Audi as the year’s most improved brand; at the same time, the DEKRA testing company has rated the Audi A6 as the “Most Reliable of All Classes”: just two highlights in a long list of honors for the Audi brand in 2008.

This year Audi not only delivered an impressive performance with 35 awards in its home market but proved its excellence in the international arena as well with 56 prizes.

The Audi R8, the Audi A5 and the Audi A4 are the Audi models that won the most awards. Immediately after its debut, the Audi A4 was chosen as “Europe’s Auto1" by “Autobild” readers from 26 countries. At the New York International Auto Show, the Audi R8 for the first time received two “World Car of the Year Awards” – for Performance and Design.

An early highlight in the year among the 35 domestic awards was the quadruple win (Audi A3, Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi R8) among the readership of the trade magazine “auto motor und sport”.

the Audi Q5 a  newcomer to the Audi range attracted attention particularly toward year’s end. Even before its market launch on November 14 it captured two design awards and the coveted “Golden Steering Wheel” in the SUV category. These were followed by three additional prizes, including the “Euro Car Body Award” by an international panel of experts.
